Kenya 2015
Semakula Denis and I travelled on the overnight coach from Kampala to Nairobi. It took 12 hours. On arrival at Nairobi, we were met by David, who was an employee of Kennedy Mwangi, who was the tour operative I had booked with via Facebook.
David took us to our first Guest House which was the Hibiscus Guest House. He told us us that Kennedy was on another tour and would be with us shortly to arrange our excursions.
When Kennedy came to visit us later, I said that I would like us to visit the Masai Mara, for a Safari. He also suggested we stay in an eco lodge, plus visit an elephant orphanage.
I thought that I would be bringing Semakula Denis with me, back the UK. However when I looked at the UK visa website I saw how difficult this would be, as Denis had never had his own bank account and could not prove that he could support himself. This was very upsetting for Denis, as he had told everyone in Uganda that he would not be returning from Kenya.
Our trip to the Masai Mara, was interesting, however there were many dead Hippopotamus in the river. We were told that was due to the fact that Tanzania had changed the migration route. This was very disturbing.
So Semakula Denis was taken by Kennedy to the coach and returned to Uganda and I was to continued my journey alone. When Denis left me, it was very emotional and he said ‘whenever I think of a mother I will think of you’ we were both very upset.
